• Expands participation in the open-source AI ecosystem and strengthens global collaboration through Backend.AI operational experience

SEOUL, South Korea, September 3, 2026 — Lablup, an AI infrastructure software company led by CEO Jeongkyu Shin, today announced that it has joined the PyTorch Foundation, an organization under the Linux Foundation, as a Silver Member.

The PyTorch Foundation supports the open-source technologies and global communities used to train, optimize, serve, deploy, and run AI models. Established in 2022 as the neutral home for the PyTorch project, the foundation expanded in 2025 into a broader umbrella organization for multiple AI projects. It now supports PyTorch alongside projects including vLLM, DeepSpeed, Ray, Helion, and Safetensors.

The foundation advocates for keeping core AI software open so that developers, enterprises, and research organizations can build and operate AI models without becoming dependent on a single chip vendor, cloud provider, or computing environment.

Lablup’s Silver Membership reflects its support for that goal and its intention to contribute more directly to the global open-source AI ecosystem.

Lablup develops Backend.AI, an open-source AI infrastructure platform designed to manage the computing resources required for AI model development, training, inference, and production operations. The platform supports environments ranging from individual development workspaces to enterprise data centers.

Developed as an open-source project since Lablup’s early days, Backend.AI helps organizations share infrastructure more efficiently across multiple users. It isolates resources between workloads, assigns compute capacity based on workload requirements, and provides unified management for heterogeneous GPUs and AI accelerators within a single platform. These capabilities help reduce the operational complexity of large-scale AI training and inference environments while allowing organizations to build AI infrastructure around their own scale, operational requirements, and cost structure.

PyTorch is one of the core frameworks used by AI workloads running on Backend.AI. Lablup has supported a range of infrastructure environments where PyTorch-based models are developed, trained, deployed, and served. Through its membership in the PyTorch Foundation, the company plans to deepen its collaboration with the global open-source AI community.

Lablup has continued to participate in open-source foundation initiatives over the years. The company began participating in Linux Foundation and CNCF Silver Membership programs in 2020. In 2026, it also became a sponsor of the Python Software Foundation and joined the Agentic AI Foundation, or AAIF, as a Silver Member.
